Dignity Restored

The other day we had the father of past English students drop by our home.  He was actually walking by our house on his way to the market.  He had eaten something that made him quite sick and he had had diarrhea as he was walking.  He came to our home wanting to clean himself.

His pants were filthy, and he had flies swarming around him.  We gave him warm water and soap and our guard took him to the washroom to get cleaned up.  The guard had spare pants and let this man take them to change in to.  We gave our guard money to replace his pants. (dignity restored)

The man was feeling better and we gave him some food and some money to catch a taxi, so he could return home.

This man, who was sick, is a devout Christian.  When we had his son in our classes he told us how his father faced a lot of family problems because of his faith.  Despite the problems and lack of family support he remained faithful to Christ.  They are very poor financially and they would receive family financial aid if they renounced their faith, but they know about the way, the truth and the life through Jesus.  His foundation is built upon the rock.

He has many children and he and his wife have taught them strong Christian values.  We have had their young children in our Kids Club, their older children in English classes and his wife in our Hausa literacy class.  We are grateful that we know this fine family and that we can help them as they try to become better educated, especially in matters of faith.  We are very grateful that this man felt comfortable to come to us in his time of need.

Everyone who comes to Me, and hears My words, and acts upon them, I will show you whom he is like:  he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid a foundation upon the rock; and when a flood rose, the torrent burst against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built.
 Luke 6: 47-48
