John 3:16 (NIV)

16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Orest has been enjoying teaching these young men English.
In one class, teaching counting, Orest dribbled a ball 25 times and counted.
The students were to duplicate his mighty feat. The student on his left in the picture did 25 and then added just one more dribble. Kind of a "anything you can do I can do better."
All in good fun.

This picture is just outside the classroom.

Dignity Restored

The other day we had the father of past English students drop by our home.  He was actually walking by our house on his way to the market.  He had eaten something that made him quite sick and he had had diarrhea as he was walking.  He came to our home wanting to clean himself.

His pants were filthy, and he had flies swarming around him.  We gave him warm water and soap and our guard took him to the washroom to get cleaned up.  The guard had spare pants and let this man take them to change in to.  We gave our guard money to replace his pants. (dignity restored)

The man was feeling better and we gave him some food and some money to catch a taxi, so he could return home.

This man, who was sick, is a devout Christian.  When we had his son in our classes he told us how his father faced a lot of family problems because of his faith.  Despite the problems and lack of family support he remained faithful to Christ.  They are very poor financially and they would receive family financial aid if they renounced their faith, but they know about the way, the truth and the life through Jesus.  His foundation is built upon the rock.

He has many children and he and his wife have taught them strong Christian values.  We have had their young children in our Kids Club, their older children in English classes and his wife in our Hausa literacy class.  We are grateful that we know this fine family and that we can help them as they try to become better educated, especially in matters of faith.  We are very grateful that this man felt comfortable to come to us in his time of need.

Everyone who comes to Me, and hears My words, and acts upon them, I will show you whom he is like:  he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid a foundation upon the rock; and when a flood rose, the torrent burst against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built.

Support

If you were to look at the United Nations Human Development Index for the last many, many years you would see that Niger is continuously rated as the poorest country in the world.

There are many needs here and we are trying to do our little part through our Hausa language literacy, English as a foreign language, Kids Club and computer literacy ministries.
If you are compelled to help us in these ministries please see below and carefully and prayerfully consider supporting us in Niger.
Blessings

Ministry Work

Here is Grace in her office.  As you can see she has a lot of things happening.  Currently her desk is occupied with all things necessary to create learning tools for the Hausa language literacy classes.

Orest is in his office doing lesson planning for upcoming English and computer literacy classes.

We were so excited with the fact that our house actually had a garage.  It has been updated and converted into a classroom.

Below are images of some of our students taking a break from our 1 week English camp that we held a couple of weeks ago.

Independence Day

Happy Independence Day Niger.  What a great country.

From Wikipedia:

Independence Day in the Republic of Niger is commemorated on August 3, marking the nation's independence from France in 1960. Since 1975, it is also Arbor Day, as trees are planted across the nation to aid the fight against desertification.
